What Is Medical BOTOX?

Millions upon millions are aware of BOTOX's power as a neurotoxin that temporarily halts the appearance of moderate-to-severe frown lines, Crow's feet, and forehead creases with a simple, injectable treatment. But BOTOX can do so much more. A Medical BOTOX treatment at Mid Cities Direct Primary Care in Grapevine, TX can treat migraine pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, and excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). Drs. Kara Farley, James Terry, and the entire team at Mid Cities Direct Primary Care are thrilled to offer this less-familiar use of BOTOX to men and women throughout the area who suffer from TMJ pain, migraines, and/or underarm hyperhidrosis. To learn more about how this procedure could alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life, contact our office, schedule your appointment, and set up a treatment plan with one of our skilled practitioners.

What are the benefits of medical BOTOX?

Medical BOTOX is not just a fantastic option for providing you with a smoothed, more youthful appearance, but also has a number of medically helpful benefits as well. While the results may not be permanent, you will enjoy the relief for a few months before thinking about scheduling a touch-up appointment. You may also get additional benefits from medical BOTOX at Mid Cities Direct Primary Care, such as:

  • Quick treatment sessions: your medical BOTOX appointments will last as little as 10 minutes
  • No downtime or recovery: because of its minimally-invasive nature, you are free to return to your normal daily activities following your treatment
  • Minimal discomfort: medical BOTOX injections utilize a very fine needle, so that your treatments will feel only like a tiny pinch of the skin
  • Easy pain relief: patients who receive medical BOTOX will experience quick and lasting relief for a variety of issues

Who is a Good Candidate for Medical BOTOX?

In general, good candidates for medical BOTOX performed at Mid Cities Direct Primary Care are those who suffer from significant TMJ pain, migraines, or excessive sweating and have tried other methods or therapies in the past to treat their conditions with limited or no success. With TMJ pain and hyperhidrosis, our team will review your medical records to confirm that you can safely receive this treatment. The best candidates of those who may be turning to medical BOTOX for migraine relief are individuals who experience 15 or more headache days per month, over half of which are migraine days.

How Is Medical BOTOX Performed?

In the case of treatments for all conditions we can treat with Medical BOTOX at Mid Cities Direct Primary Care, your injections will be performed in one of our pleasant treatment rooms and are completed in under half an hour. For those who have treatment plans to relieve significant TMJ pain (also referred to as temporomandibular disorder, or TMD) or migraine symptoms, a member of our team will inject BOTOX units into your head, neck, or jaw muscles. This will cause the muscles in those areas to temporarily stop contracting, thus improving your migraines or TMJ pain. Results to treat TMD and migraines are typically noticeable in 1 – 2 weeks.

For patients undergoing Medical BOTOX treatment for hyperhidrosis, your doctor or practitioner will make approximately 10 – 15 small injections in the underarm areas. Individuals who get BOTOX for excessive sweating at our Grapevine, TX facility should feel a significant reduction in sweating within a month.

What to Expect After Medical BOTOX

You may notice some swelling or redness about the injection areas after your medical BOTOX treatment, but these will pass within a few hours to a day. You should be able to immediately get back to your daily routine, though we recommend waiting at least a day before doing any strenuous exercise. You should also avoid touching the area or exposing it to heat for a day or two. You may notice improvements around the treatment area almost immediately after your injections, but it typically takes at least a week before the full benefits of medical BOTOX are felt.
